Genealogy Intensive With Geniva (Yoshi), Certified Librarian, MLIS
Hi, I’m Geniva—also known as Yoshi. I’m a certified public librarian with a Master’s in Library and Information Science, and I specialize in genealogical research and young adult services. Combining my research skills with a deep personal interest in family history, I help others discover their ancestors and build their family trees.
This genealogy intensive course is designed to give you the knowledge and tools to start exploring and preserving your own family history with confidence. Together, we’ll begin building your family tree and learn the best ways to continue your research. While we’ll cover a lot and get you started, this service doesn’t include ongoing research or follow-up work beyond our session.
In the future, full family tree building services may be offered as a separate option, and details will be published on the Services page once available.
🕒 About the Course
This intensive genealogy course is a one to one session customized to your experience level. Prior to meeting you'll complete a brief survey to help me understand your experience level, tech comfort level and what family information you already have. This helps me tailor both the session and a personalized resource guide you'll receive afterward to support your continued research.
During the session:
- I’ll share my screen and present resources live. You won’t need to navigate your own device during the session.
- While there is a course curriculum it serves as a framework to guide our session; however, our time together remains flexible and may be adjusted to slow the pace, expand, or move beyond the outlined topics to meet your individual needs and align with your experience level, pace, interests and research goals.

Just starting? We’ll begin building your tree together. Afterward, I’ll provide a GEDCOM file, which stores your tree data so you can upload it to the genealogy platform of your choice. Instructions for this will be included in your personal resource guide.
🧬 DNA Disclaimer
The survey provided before your session may ask about DNA tests, but I will not be focusing on genetic genealogy. The questions are only to help ensure that known family locations align with any DNA results and assist in exploration, if available. A DNA test is not required for a session.
💲 Pricing
The fee is $222 USD for a 90 minute session, due after your survey is reviewed, we confirm a date/time, but before our session.
